Marking 60 years, this report reflects on the journey of The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ from a pioneering idea to the world’s most comprehensive source on extinction risk of animals, plants and fungi. The report explores how the IUCN Red List drives global conservation – by guiding decision making, shaping international ambition and catalysing action on the ground. It highlights successes such as species recoveries while also confronting the stark realities of ongoing declines.

From training workshops to international partnerships, the report underscores the collaboration powering this global effort. With new assessments and reassessments and an updated digital platform, the IUCN Red List will continue to evolve to ensure it remains the indispensable ‘Barometer of Life’, critical for safeguarding biodiversity for future generations.
